Last year, I captured some the runway looks in Black & White as an ode to black & white fashion photography (see here) and the silhouettes & garments of the various designers at the show, this year I did the same. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg SS’17 designers showcased collections that were pleasing to the eye, silhouettes that were breathtaking and more florals for spring.
I managed to catch a few shows: The ever so controversial Gavin Rajah managed to put a collection that was worth looking at, with Asianic florals on the runway, floral maxi dress and fun silhouettes, I was intrigued. While Gavin Rajah opted to stay away from controversy, Spero Villioti did not – he managed to bring back the dreadlocks cultural appropriation that got Marc Jacobs in trouble a few months ago. Apart from the hair, the attention to detail in his garments was impressive. I also managed to see Thula Sindi, not much to say, and the new Fabiani Women collection that will be dropping soon which looked absolutely breathtaking. I was absolutely bumped that I missed my favorite designer Orapeleng Modutle’s “Queen of the Forest” collection which featured the most dramatic gowns.

Black & White fashion photography will always be appealing to me. We get to see the movement of the gown, the attention to detail and when its on the runway? The models beautiful strut.
