Fashion month is here and I couldn’t be more excited because this means getting tons of fashion inspiration. Sure, the runway is great and all but it’s what happens outside the shows that we stalk the most — the street style.
Another season of New York Fashion Week is upon us—Spring/Summer 2018, to be exact—and with that comes another season of epic street-style moments. This season color was the star of the show, the color choices were vibrant – especially the pink & red combinations. The theme of the street style scene was definitely ‘more is more.’ After a 7 days of non-stop fashion, some trends were clear and I’ve rounded up my 5 favorite trends that dominated NYFW SS18:
“On Wednesday’s we wear pink” was the caption on everyone’s Instagram post. The color ruled the streets this season because who doesn’t look good in pink? Hot Pink suits were most popular, paired with a sneaker or matching pink shoe, this is the perfect “look at me” ensemble.
Tweed has been around since the 1900s, its nothing new. This Fall (Autumn), the print has been reinvented and has to be one of the biggest trends. It is a modern twist on power dressing and gives an English Preppy feel to any look.
WE’RE COLOUR BLOCKING AGAIN…
Colour-blocking – the act of taking colors that are opposites on the color wheel and pairing them together. Seems like its 2011 again because the trend is back (thanks, Balenciaga!). NYFW showed us outfits with one full bold color as well as a group of bold tones in one outfit.
Definitely no shocker here as the color dominated the runways of many designers, the street was no different. Many attendees paired the bold red with pink quite often and it worked seamlessly.
Pastel pants suits, printed pant suits, mini skirt suits, checked blazers, double-breasted blazers, oversized shoulder pads — this masculine trend is really not going anywhere.
Another color that was popular in the street. While designers have been seen experimenting with clashing reds and pinks, the street was a little sunnier which shades of yellow. From accessories, shoes to a full yellow outfit, the color was definitely a hit — we also saw Rihanna during the Fenty Beauty launch pull off a bold yellow ensemble so we know that it is a definite hit.
I enjoyed a lot of outfits and trends this NYFW and most importantly, I am inspired. There were some questionable trends that seem to be back, like animal print coats. But overall some looks and trends were bold but still easy on the eye. I am really looking forward to seeing the street style in London, Milan and Paris this fashion month
Who were your favorites this NYFW SS18 and what trends did you love (or hate)?
