Reminiscent of the 90s, the slip dress trend is picking up speed once again. The slinky and sexy dress was extremely big on the spring/summer 2016 catwalks and even bigger in the streets.
But firstly, what is a slip dress? It is a dress that resembles a woman’s undergarment, a loose fitting dress with spaghetti straps that is worn beneath a dress or skirt. Back in the 1930s, when slip dresses were introduced, they were primarily designed for those with smaller busts and skinny waists – fast forward to the 1990s, the slip dress became more popular and was no longer worn as just an undergarment but as a dress intended to be seen.
However, not all girls enjoy wearing dresses or skirts, I for one prefer a pair of pants/ jeans over a short skirt and dresses but when slip dresses picked up, I had to try at least one of them out. For my first try at wearing & styling a slip dress, I went simple with baby pink slip dress, one size bigger because I wanted something more loosely fitting and comfortable. I paired the dress with brogues, a gold watch and a sling bag.
To pull off a slip dress when you don’t wear dresses often, you need to keep it simple – It’s the easiest way to wear a slip dress. Minimal accessories like a pair of flats and a bag, keeps the dress casual and effortless.
